Leaving Merasheen
by Gerard (Carter) Pomroy
We left our homes on Merasheen September ‘68
We moved across the bay to a place that some of us would hate
To a place called Placentia where some had moved before
It was one of the saddest days my family would endure.
When we arrived at Placentia the school year was underway
It was quite the culture shock to me now you might say
With mini skirts and colored hair and kids of every kind
It was quite the different life than the one I left behind.
But now I’m older and slowing down, my hair is turning gray
There’s so much more I’d like to add but this to you I’ll say
To all you Merasheeners now who dream of yesterday
Don’t wait until it’s too late, go back there right away.
The fresh air in this pristine place will make you feel just grand
You’ll wonder why you ever left this piece of God’s green land
You’ll wonder why you ever left and stayed away so long
For every day that you’re away you’ll dream of your return
Yes, every day that you’re away you’ll dream of your return.
