SCARED AND SCARRED
by Denis P. Walsh
Tom Barry, Ron Best and I, were over by the priest's shed where a hand-operated cement mixer was standing. We decided that Tom would get into the cement mixer and Ron and I would turn the handle, thus spinning it around and getting more and more fun out of it. We didn't expect what happened next! The cement mixer, as it was supposed to do, tipped over. Tom, of course, tried to save himself from being dumped on the ground, but in doing so, put his hand into the turning wheel and as a consequence, several of his fingers were crushed. We were scared. If I remember correctly, Bill Rose, who had some specialized first aid training, was home. Tom got the required aid and his fingers were healed but not without scars!
