UNHOLY BOYS
by Denis P. Walsh

It was customary for school friends to go around the Stations in Church each day after school, Vince Pittman and I were buddies and some of our classmates, girls, came along with us. In the Church, first sitting in the pews, we boys tried to get a little closer to the girls, romantic notions I suppose! Then, to impress our lady friends, while I giggled in the pew, Vince went up to the altar, spread out his arms toward us and said aloud, ‘Dominus vobiscum". Of course, we all laughed but our laughter was changed the next day, when our parents, teachers, as well as our priest, Father Fyme, heard about our antics.
We were dutifully chastised. Was that the beginning of my vocation? And Vince, was that invocation for us a movement of the Spirit for you?
