MV Catherine Mary Hann at Hann's wharf. Owned by Jack Hann, this was the last of the Western boats built at Merasheen. Built in the winter of 1926 by master builder Tom Duke of Fox Harbour, the vessel was named after Jack’s mother Catherine, his first wife Catherine and daughter Mary who was born in 1922. In 1927, and for many fishing seasons after, the schooner was captained by Denis P Walsh. During WW2, with the construction of the US base at Argentia, the owners of the schooner had difficulty finding fishing crews so for a time the vessel was used in Argentia as a utility boat, and as accomodation for workers. Gerald and Michael Hann from Petite Forte, relatives of Jack, were the last owners of the schooner.
