The MV Guerney was built by Amelius Best and Tom Connors up by Wareham's wharf where the herring factory used to be. She was used to carry the school inspector and Father Fyme around. Jack Pitcher, Anthony Wilson and Jimmy Pitman ran her at different times. (Source: Mathilda Pomroy).  The Guerney was built in 1949 for owner Victor Mulrooney with a registered length of 31.7', width 9.8', 10.0 gross tons, 22 HP engine. Vic was Manager of W.W.Wareham & Sons fishing & business, bought from merchant Thomas Keats on Soldiers Point, from about 1938 to 1953. Vic came from Port Royal and had worked with Wareham's in Hr. Buffett.  He sold the Guerney to Patrick J. Hann in 1953 and moved to Placentia where he went to work at Placentia Trading Company.
From Ernie Walsh: My Godfather, Victor Mulrooney married my Aunt Laura (Ennis) in Merasheen. Vic had to send in a name for his new boat to get approved. He sent in many names to Customs or shipping authority and they were returned, saying names already used. They had recently gotten a new Guerney Stove, so Laura told him, "Send in the name of the stove" and he did and the name was accepted.
