Goff to Sweetman letter

Merasheen, 28th of April 1826

Mr. R.F. Sweetman

Dear sir

It gives me great pleasure to hear of your safe arrival. You had a very fair voyage. It is most extraordinary of both your vessels leaving Waterford on the same day and arriving the same day in Placentia.

I am informed Mr. Kough is not likely to leave Liverpool for this country before the 10th of this month. I expected he should have arrived before this, we are getting short of many things, I heard from Oderin yesterday, the Brig Earl Selkirk has not yet arrived but expected daily.

I am informed you intend going to St. Johns shortly in the Brig Concord, you will please forward the enclosed letter for Messrs. Henderson and Bland at your first opportunity.

I received a letter from Messrs. Henderson and Bland on the 20th. Inst, Fish is in no demand in St. Johns the nominal price is 9s 6p but no sales can be made at those prices for cash. I shall feel much obliged if you would spare me 10 Barrels Potatoes, 6 Bars of 1/2 Inch Iron, and 4 Bars of 5/8 Inch & 2 bars of 1/2 Inch Flat, the Iron we want principally to make nails.

Mrs. Kough and Miss Simms are quite {well] they send our best respects to you. If you have any shingle nails please send me 1/2 Cwt.

I remain dear sir
Yours truly

Joseph Goff
