Bottle with a gift

The following is an article that appeared in The Evening Telegram, possibly in late 1969, and preserved in a scrapbook by Ernie Walsh's mom:

Lawrence Pitcher and Fergus Fulford of Point Verde, PLacentia Bay, were searching a beach at Merasheen Island for driftwood to start a fire and instead found an expense paid trip to London, England or New York.

Mrs. Pitcher said Tuesday that her husband and Mr. Fulford were fishing around Merasheen Island on September 17 and put ashore at Wild Cove to spend the night.

While searching for firewood they discovered a bottle containing a note from Commonwealth United Entertainment. It was dated May 1, 1969 and told of the filming of scenes aboard the Cunard luxury liner Queen Elizabeth 2 of the movie Magic Christian, which stars Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr.

The note said the bottle was dropped overboard from the liner in mid Atlantic and reward for anyone finding it was an expense paid trip to either London or New York for the premiere showing of the movie.

The movie was premiered earlier this year but Mr. Pitcher has sent notification of the find to the company.

John (Lawrence's son) notes that it was quite a goings on at the time with his mother Gert and Fergus being interviewed by CBC where they showed a copy of the letter and the bottle.  He has a copy of the letter.
