Merasheen Island
by Austin Ennis
Nestled in the middle of the ocean all alone
There’s a rugged little island that used to be well known
The people made their living from the ocean far and wide
At sunset you’d see them coming home on the tide.
This island that I sing about is known as Merasheen
Contentment on the faces of the people could be seen
The old, the young, the visitors were treated all with pride
On that little island in the sea where we stood side by side
Like many of the out ports out there in the bay
That little island we called home from it we had to stray
To settle among strangers and start our lives anew
And leave our island in the sea and the friends we loved so true
At reunion time the people they all gather once again
And talk about the good old days and the times we had back then
There’s dancing and singing and parties galore
Merasheen comes alive like the good old days of yore
Merasheen Island used to be well known
People came from far and wide and called it their home
That majestic little island standing there for all to see
Will be remembered through the years as part of history.
