PUPPY LOVE
by Ernie Walsh

Freddy and I were about seven years old when Fred and Elsie, upon returning from a visit to Tock‘s Beach, brought Freddy back a small short haired crackle pup. He named the pup ‘Bingo’. He was about a month old and would bark almost continuously. I was a bit envious of Freddy having a small dog. He said the pup wouldn't grow very much bigger because his Uncle Vic had given the pup brandy so that he would remain small. We played a lot with the pup for the next couple of weeks and the pup would get tangled up in the trap twine that Mr. Mack and Vic would be mending. He was always under foot, and never learned to stop yapping and barking. I was very surprised when Freddy told me one morning ‘The pup is dead. Uncle Vic walked on him.’
