Lucy Pomroy June 11, 1881

Lucy was the daughter of John 'Jack' Pomroy and Caroline Anne Viscount and born in the Virgin Cove.  Her brothers were Joseph (married to Elizabeth Barry from Red Island) and William 'Billy Tangle' (married to Joey's sister Ellie May from Hopeall). Her sisters were Cecelia (married to Jim Traverse) and Mary (married to Michael Cochrane).  Lucy's mother died when she was 9 and she was raised by her mother's sister Ellen (Viscount) and Ambrose Power.

She married Joey Pitcher on 26 November 1903 in St. Kyran's and lived on Dunn's Point, later called Pitcher's Point with the Powers until Joey built a two storey house and fishing premises and raised a large family. Lucy passed on October 24, 1960 and is buried with Joey in the cemetery on Tommy Yeo's Point.

Some things that people remember about grandmother Lucy:
Gertie: She looked after us during times when mom was in hospital. She always had her hair up in a bun. She loved berry picking and put the berries in her apron. She was a lovely woman.

Gerry: Every Sunday she would dress up and go around the harbour to visit her friends. It was the only time she didn't wear her apron which she used for everything from picking berries to picking up chips to light the fire.  On Candlemas Day she would put the sign of the cross on everything in the house with candle wax.

Larry: i would stay down there some nights when mom was in hospital, she was a very sweet woman , very gentle.

Carl: I also remember berry picking with her, always with a group of children in tow. And that kerosene light in the kitchen that said Home Sweet Home. She would make you a slice of bread topped with thick sweet milk and always manage to get a lick before she passed it to you. And if you stayed there at night, under a ton of quilts, she would nearly drown you with the sprinkles of holy water.

Bill: We went down for the third time pretty often with the holy water.

Theresa: I remember Mrs. Lucy and Nanny Fulford having discussions about their grandchildren, both very concerned if the grandchildren were anywhere near the wharves or water. And of course, there was the lengthy discussion of their ailments. They would usually meet halfway in between, somewhere by the hall. Lovely ladies who dearly loved their families.
