A TRIBUTE TOWMRS. KATE WILSON (I873-/979)
by Patricia Ennis Burke
Though her name may not be written on the world's great history page,
And maybe she was not a star upon the world's great stage,
For Mrs. Kate was humble - a cheerful, happy soul
She brought more than 600 babes into the world I'm told.
Yes, Mrs. Kate brought lots of joy to many a simple home,
It's only now we realize since we have fully grown
For I remember childhood days back home in Merasheen
When Mrs. Kate was looked upon as some magic fairy queen.
My mom would write a little note and say, ‘Now hurry please,
Don't stop to play, just give this note to Mrs. Kate for me.“
And I would hurry down the road as fast as I could go,
For written in this little note was a secret I’d learned to know.
For every time my friends or I were on this message sent
Mrs. Kate took a small black bag and to our mothers went.
And if by night we did not hear a newborn baby's cry
We'd sleep, and dream, and rest content, next day would bring the joy.
For Mrs. Kate rarely failed to bring a sister or brother
And perhaps same time again next year she'd be back to bring another.
She's gone now, she has left us, called to her place of rest. '
‘Twas just the day before Mother's Day with hands folded on her breast
We bade farewell to Mrs. Kate, a friend both kind and true
She was indeed the dearest friend a person ever knew.
I'm sure the angels gathered around God's golden throne
And blew their bugles loudly to welcome Mrs. Kate back home.
I'm sure that God, Our Father, took her by the hand
And smiled and said, "I'm pleased indeed you've fulfilled my one command.
You loved Me and your neighbour while you were on the earth
Come in, dear Kate, enjoy the place I've prepared for you since birth.“
